GE Introduces Latest Generation of Mobile Radiography Technology

Ahrensburg, Germany —November 23, 2009.

The Isovolt mobile 160 represents the latest generation of mobile radiography technology from GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies and incorporates design features that increase mobility, performance, versatility, flexibility and ease-of-use. It has been developed following thorough assessment of the Isovolt mobile 160’s field performance and will find extensive use in the aerospace, power generation, oil and gas and metals industries.

As Martin Sauerschnig, product manager at GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies, explains, “We have developed a system that combines the high performance features of stationary radiography equipmentwith excellent mobility and compactness. As a result, the improved Isovolt mobile 160 is able to perform simple, fast and reliable radiography inspection in difficult environments, helping save costs and increase productivity.”

The Isovolt mobile 160 is comprised of an X-ray generator, a water-cooling system, a flexible high voltage cable up to 20m in length, a control module based on the field-proven MF4 unit and a choice of 160kV, constant potential, dual focus and panoramic X-ray tubes. A range of specialist tubes is also available, including high power and mini-focus versions. All components are carried in a compact, easy-to-manipulate, rubber-tired transport cart, which features an integrated lifting eye and provides IP54 protection in harsh operating conditions.

Ease-of-use is a particular feature of the new system, with menu-driven set-up and intuitive operation. The control module offers on-board exposure calculation, allowing rapid exposure set-up, and the extended programming and reporting features of the instrument may be embedded in various documentation workflows. Its compact design and cranability facilitate use in cooling and heat-exchanger power generation inspection and the use of small panoramic tubes allows insertion into narrow vessel nozzles and flange inspection in the oil and gas sector, where the availability of different size shutters greatly extends the range of inspection tasks.
