Advanced CT Software

phoenix datos|x is an advanced CT software for fully automated data acquisition and volume processing in phoenix|x-ray computed tomography (micro ct and nano ct) systems.

With phoenix datos|x 2.0, the entire CT process chain can be fully automated. This minimizes operator time and influence, while highly increasing the repeatability and reproducibility of CT results. Once the appropriate setup is programmed, the whole scan and reconstruction process incl. volume optimization features (e.g. automatic beam hardening correction) or surface extraction can be fully automated. Furthermore, 3D failure analysis or 3D metrology tasks like generation of first article inspection reports can be executed automatically.

Applications

3D Computed Tomography

The classic application of industrial X-ray 3D computed tomography (CT) is the inspection and three-dimensional measurement of metal and plastic castings. However, phoenix|x-ray’s high-resolution X-ray technology opens up a variety of new applications in fields such as sensor technology, electronics, materials science, and many other natural sciences.

Turbine blades are complex high-performance castings which have to fulfill highest quality and security-requirements. CT allows failure analysis as well as precise 3D measurements (e.g. wall-thickness).

Casting & Welding

Radiographic non-destructive testing is used to detect flaws in castings and welds. The combination of microfocus X-ray technology and industrial X-ray computed tomography (CT) enables defect detectability in the micrometer range and provides three-dimensional images of low-contrast defects.

Metrology

3D metrology with X-ray is the only technique allowing to non-destructively measure the interior of complex objects. By contrast with conventional tactile coordinate measurement technique, a computed tomography scan of an object acquires all surface points simultaneously – including all hidden features like undercuts which are not accessible non-destructively using other methods of measurement.

Plastics Engineering

In plastics engineering, high-resolution X-ray technology is used to optimize the casting and spraying process by detecting contraction cavities, blisters, weld lines and cracks, and to analyze flaws. X-ray computed tomography (CT) provides three-dimensional images of object characteristics such as grain-flow patterns and filler distribution as well as of low-contrast defects.
