GE Infrastructure Sensing, a leading provider of moisture measurement technologies announces intrinsic safety (IS) certification for the PM880 Portable Hygrometer. The PM880 is designed for moisture measurement in hazardous areas and rugged environments, such as hydrocarbon gases in the chemical/petrochemical industry, natural gas, gas cylinder preparation and filling, SF6 circuit breakers, power utility applications, industrial gases, and general plant and facility maintenance. The electronics are protected by a rubber boot for rugged, portable use and Its IP67 rated submersible package makes it ideal for use under the harshest environmental conditions. The PM880 is certified CSA C_US for Class I, Divisions 1 and 2, Groups A/B/C/D T3 and Baseefa certified intrinsically safe to II 1G EEx ia IIC T3.
The PM880 system consists of the battery-powered moisture analyzer, moisture probes, battery charger, cables and accessories, all packaged into a durable soft carrying case for portability and ease of use. Equaling the performance of GE’s permanent fixed installation moisture analyzers, the PM880 can utilize any of the company’s aluminum oxide moisture sensors, including MISP, TF, or M-Series moisture probes, for real-time simultaneous moisture, temperature, and pressure measurement in gases and non-aqueous liquids. All moisture probe calibrations are traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
The PM880’s advanced features and capabilities enhance GE’s line of portable moisture analyzers. The PM880 features a graphical/matrix display and can display up to four parameters simultaneously while operating on battery power for over 24 hours. The IS certification permits replacement of the battery pack within the hazardous area, minimizing down time. Jeff Hawkins, GE Infrastructure Sensing moisture analyzer product specialist said “The IS certification in a portable package minimizes the need for permanently installed explosionproof enclosures saving users 25% on installation costs on average.” The PM880 contains a data logger and is capable of storing up to 60 log or site files. Additionally, the PM880 offers an infrared (IrDA®) interface for easy data transfer to a computer and has an optional hand-held sample system to facilitate the measurement.
