Plate Tester - Automated

GE Inspection Technologies designs and builds large-scale systems for heavy plate testing as on-line or off-line systems in its general program of automatic ultrasonic inspection machines.

These systems consist of the complete test mechanism and test electronics, extended by automated evaluation software and web/modem-based remote servicing.

Product dimensions vary between 1.5 m – 5 m (4.92 - 16.40 ft.) in width and 6 mm – 100 mm (.24 - 3.94 in.) in thickness. Product lengths are up to 55 m (180 ft.).

The plate inspection may be executed from above (top-down method) or below (bottom-up method) the plate‘s surface.

Principally sheared (final) and non-sheared (mother plates) plates can be inspected.

Features

  • Body inspection system with 2 inspection frames for 100% body test in one run (from bottom up or from top down depending customers request)
  • Extension of the body inspection systems with a longitudinal edge and a head and tail tester
  • Alternative -> A scanner system is available to inspect heavy plates positioned in the inspection area
  • Probe holders with hardened steel slides, covering a closed water area with separate water inlet and outlet, (asymmetrical suspension)
  • Multiple T/R (separate Transmitter and Receiver crystals) probes are applied for the inspection
  • Testing speed can be controlled between 250mm/s (.82 inches/s) and 1000mm/s (3.28 inches/s)
  • The system can be integrated into customers high level IT and quality assurance networks
  • Documentation stating the condition of every plate evaluated according to the chosen standard
